We are looking for a Research Associate to join the fast-growing team within our Macrophage Biology unit at our site in Edinburgh! This position is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis.
Resolution Therapeutics (RTx) is a biotechnology company developing macrophage cell therapies to treat inflammatory organ disease. The company's technology platform is based on over a decade's work by Prof. Stuart Forbes and Prof. John Campbell, and provides RTx with a leading position in macrophage biology and regenerative medicine.
In 2020, following a productive collaboration between Edinburgh's Centre for Regenerative Medicine, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, and Syncona, Resolution Therapeutics was launched with a £26.6m series A financing.
Today, RTx is a multidisciplinary team of experienced scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs based in Edinburgh and London, working at the forefront of cell therapy and liver disease, supported by Syncona, Europe's leading life science investor.
In this role you will drive testing and development of enhanced macrophage products for cell therapy for liver cirrhosis, taking on a critical role in execution of the company's research plan.
Key responsibilities:
· Validating and deploying assays to test key biological functions of genetically modified (GM) macrophages
· General laboratory management and instrument maintenance duties
· Working with senior members of the team to develop an accurate record of sample archived during experiments
· Interfacing with the Cell Engineering, In Vivo Pharmacology, and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell units to identify best-in-class GM macrophage products, as well as the Process Development team to assist with writing standard operating procedures and implementing analytics under GMP conditions
· Assisting with writing patents, publications, progress reports and presentations

You will be expected to work as part of a team with likeminded Research Associates and collaborate closely with a Research Scientist within the same unit, reporting directly into the Director of Macrophage Biology.
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
· A bachelor's degree in biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
· 3+ years lab experience
· Full proficiency in flow cytometry
· Experience with primary immune cell culture, preferably monocytes/macrophages
· Experience in molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction and purification, PCR and qPCR
· Experience with antibody-based sorting and analysis using FAC-Sorting and magnetic bead separation (MACS or similar)
· Experience in western blotting, ELISA, and immunofluorescence
· Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records
· Excellent writing, communication, time-management, and interpersonal skills
· Willingness to learn and positive attitude and team working
· Good computing skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
Preferable skills / experience include:
· A working knowledge of inflammation
· Experience in histology techniques
· Experience in a commercial laboratory environment
· Experience with cloning and transfection
· Familiarity with the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and writing of standard operating procedures
